Ask anyone in comradium what the Kegites Club is really about, and you’ll hear stories of gyration, jollification, and how the emblem (calabash) is passed hand to hand in celebration of African culture. But behind every gyration has always stood a quieter, sharper tradition — one of scholarship, intellect, and the deliberate passing down of our ideology. That tradition is what we are reviving today.
We are proud to announce the return of the US Archaivarian ₦1,000,000 Essay Writing Competition, an initiative first launched to reward scholarship and cultural consciousness among our undergraduate members across Nigerian tertiary institutions — and one we are now committing to as a permanent annual tradition.
A Topic Worth Fighting For
This year, we’re not just asking our undergraduate Comrads to write — we’re asking them to defend an idea. The 2026 topic is drawn straight from the words we chant at every gathering, put to the test:
“Unity in Diversity: Analyzing Kegites Club’s Motto as a Framework for Multicultural Education.”
Why This Topic, Why Now
Since 1963, the Kegites Club has stood on one unshakable principle rooted in African culture and tradition — that tribe, religion, background, and status should never come between Comrads. This year, we are asking our brightest undergraduate minds to go further than reciting that motto: to interrogate it, to test it against the realities of a multicultural world, and to argue for what it can teach far beyond our own gatherings.
Why This Matters
Education has always been one of the strongest pillars of our philosophy. Many of our student members juggle demanding academic schedules alongside their cultural responsibilities within the Club, and too often their intellectual work goes unrecognized. This competition exists to change that — to put a spotlight, and a serious cash reward, on the scholarship happening among our undergraduate Comrads.
It is also about legacy. The themes we’ve chosen — African culture, Kegite tradition, leadership, and global citizenship — are not incidental. They are designed to pass on our ideology intellectually, ensuring that comradeship, pan-Africanism, and respect for heritage are not just lived out at gyrations, but studied, written about, and argued for in essay form.
The Prizes
This year’s competition carries the largest prize pool in the award’s history — a full ₦1,000,000 in cash prizes, distributed across five categories:

Beyond the cash award, every winner will receive a certificate and public recognition at our 8th Annual Thanksgiving World Gyration in Indianapolis (INDY 2026) — celebrated in front of Comrads from across the United States and beyond.
Who Can Enter
The competition is open to all undergraduate Kegites Club members currently enrolled in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
- Format: Submit your essay as a Word document (.doc/.docx), PowerPoint, or PDF attachment.
- Where to send it: essay@usarchaivarian.org
- Judging criteria: Originality, creativity, sentence structure and grammar, and relevance to African culture — the very culture from which our Club traces its origin.
Essays will be reviewed by a panel of academics, ensuring every submission is judged with the rigor it deserves.

Our Track Record
This is not our first time putting scholarship at the center of celebration. Our previous essay competition drew submissions from across the country and reminded us all that the Kegites Club’s real strength lies not only in gyration and jollification, but in the sharpness of the mind. This year, we intend to build on that legacy and make the ₦1,000,000 Essay Writing Competition a permanent fixture on our cultural and academic calendar.
